Event Details

This training will be hosted by the Indiana Restaurant & Lodging Association in partnership with Downtown Indy and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD).

This training course is designed to equip individuals with the necessary skills and techniques to effectively manage conflict through verbal de-escalation. Conflict situations can arise in a variety of settings, and it is important to know how to handle them in a calm and professional manner. The course covers the definition and objective of verbal de-escalation and introduces various de-escalation strategies. The course also covers the five universal truths of human interaction, which help participants understand the underlying reasons for conflict and how to address them. Additionally, the course covers proxemics, or the study of personal space, and how it can affect communication. Active listening, an essential component of effective communication, is also discussed in detail. The purpose of this course is not only to teach participants how to handle abusive language, but also to help them become better communicators in general. Upon completion of the course, participants will be equipped with the tools and knowledge to effectively manage conflict through verbal de-escalation techniques.
